- Wash the asparagus spears under cool water and pat them dry. Trim the woody ends.
- Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil and half of the butter. Allow the butter to melt until it shimmers.
- Add the asparagus spears to the skillet in a single layer and cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes.
- Season with sea salt and cracked black pepper, then toss the spears to ensure even coating.
- Reduce heat to medium, add the remaining butter and minced garlic to the pan, stirring until garlic is fragrant and pale golden.
- Continue cooking for an additional 2 minutes until the asparagus is tender-crisp. Serve immediately, finishing with lemon juice or zest if desired.
