Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • measuring cups
  • skillet or grill
  • spatula
  • plate

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ranch seasoning mix, shredded cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  2. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into burger patties slightly wider than the buns.
  4. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat and lightly grease the surface with butter or oil.
  5. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until the burgers reach your desired doneness.
  6. If using sliced cheddar cheese, place it on top of the patties during the last minute of cooking and let it melt.
  7. Toast the hamburger buns if desired.
  8. Assemble the burgers on the buns with your choice of lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles, then serve hot.

Notes

For the juiciest burgers, mix the meat just until combined and avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking. Serve with fries, chips, or a simple salad for a complete meal.
