Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper
  • oven
  • small bowl
  • serving platter

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly coat it with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet and bake according to the package directions until crisp and golden brown, about 25 to 30 minutes, flipping halfway through if desired.
  3. Remove the tots from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  4. Return the baking sheet to the oven for 2 to 4 minutes, just until the cheese is melted.
  5. Transfer the loaded tater tots to a serving platter and top with the crumbled bacon, sliced green onions, and chopped chives.
  6. In a small bowl, stir together the sour cream, garlic powder, black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Serve the dip on the side or drizzle it over the tots.
  7. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.

Notes

For extra flavor, add jalapeños, ranch seasoning, or a drizzle of hot sauce. You can also swap cheddar for a cheddar-jack blend.
