Ingredients

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • wooden spoon
  • mixing bowl
  • measuring cups
  • knife
  • cutting board

Method

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the sesame oil.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small crumbles with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Drain any excess fat from the skillet, then return the cooked beef to the pan.
  4. Add the minced garlic to the beef and cook for 1 minute, stirring frequently, until fragrant.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, ground ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture over the cooked beef and stir well to combine. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef evenly.
  7. Stir in the chopped green onions, reserving some for garnish, and remove the skillet from heat.
  8. Divide the cooked rice among serving bowls and top with the Korean ground beef mixture.
  9. Optionally, add steamed vegetables to the bowls for extra nutrition.
  10. Garnish with sesame seeds and additional green onions, if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a spicier dish, increase the amount of red pepper flakes. You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef.
