  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar, plus a pinch for yeast activatio
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 6-8 cups neutral oil for frying
  • 1 cup granulated sugar for coating

Method
 

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar; let it sit until foamy.
  2. Prepare the dough by mixing the activated yeast mixture with sugar, egg, butter, vanilla, and salt, then gradually adding flour.
