- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare the cake pan.
- Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy in an electric mixer.

- Alternate adding dry ingredients with milk until just combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and gently tap to release air bubbles.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then invert onto a cooling rack.
- Prepare the buttercream by creaming butter and gradually adding powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Once cool, frost the cake with a crumb coat, chill, then apply the final frosting layer.
